Worrack crashes at Trofeo Alfredo Binda
CANYON//SRAM rider Trixi Worrack has undergone emergency surgery last night after a crash during yesterday’s Trofeo Alfredo Binda race in Cittiglio, Italy.
The current German national road champion was involved in a crash on a small descent around 55 kilometres into the 123 kilometre Women’s WorldTour race. Worrack was attended at the scene by the race ambulance and taken to Cittiglio hospital. Following a CT scan Worrack was transferred to Varese hospital, where she had emergency surgery on her left kidney last night.
Directeur Sportif Beth Duryea has been with Worrack in the hospital. “It was a serious injury. We are now focusing on the best treatment for Trixi. Her health and recovery now is our only priority and at this point it can’t be indicated how long that will take. The race organisers have been very helpful and we extend our appreciation.”
Duryea added, “Of course everyone from CANYON//SRAM and all of our partners are wishing Trixi the best at this time and we are thankful for all their messages of support.”
In the race Alena Amialiusik was the team’s top finisher in fifth position while Elena Cecchini was fourteenth.
