Stage five of Giro Rosa
The shake up seen today after stage five of the Giro Rosa was a sign of things to come as the hillier profiles of this year’s tour approach.
Elena Cecchini was in the first real breakaway of the day and when it was reeled in before the main climb of the stage, it was Alice Barnes and Tiffany Cromwell who kept Kasia Niewiadoma into position.
A trio broke away over the climb, and would stay away until the finish line with Ruth Winder (SUN) taking the stage win and moving into the overall leader’s Maglia Rosa. Niewiadoma and Hannah Barnes both finished in the front group of 40 riders.
