A PODIUM ON STAGE 4 IN THURINGEN
CANYON//SRAM Generation finished second on today’s fourth stage of LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour. The podium place also improved Bauernfeind’s position in the Best German Rider classification.
After a rain-soaked start to the 128km stage around Schleiz, the weather conditions improved. All of the CANYON//SRAM Generation riders were able to manage the wet conditions, something that has improved upon since the start of the 2022 season.
Bauernfeind explained the stage, “In the first two hours of the stage, it was raining hard. There were some attacks but when the first climb came at 70km, we were still a big bunch. From this point, it was quite hilly and windy. The peloton reduced in size step by step.”
“In the last kilometres, I tried to save some power because I knew there was a climb 2km before the finish. We were around 15 riders with 1km to go. My main goal was to try to be smart in the sprint because I knew there were a lot of strong sprinters still left in the group. I managed to be on the wheel of Alex Manly so it was a very good position and I could finish second.”
“After yesterday’s 4th place, I didn‘t expect a better result so now I’m very happy! Tomorrow I’ll give my best again and see what’s happening.”
