SHARI CLAIMS HER FIRST PRO WIN IN NORMANDIE
Shari Bossuyt claimed her first professional win today when she stormed to victory on the final stage of the Tour de Normandie. The CANYON//SRAM Racing rider timed her sprint to perfection to win in Caen, France, and give the team its first win of the 2023 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With a headwind for the first part of the 114km stage, there were few attacks. More moves and attempts came when the peloton reached the hillier part of the parcours. CANYON//SRAM Racing tried several times to create a breakaway, but the peloton seemed set on a bunch sprint. That allowed Shari to sprint, and she was determined to bring her good feelings from ninth place on stage one, into a better result in today’s finale.
SHARI’S REACTION:
“We could execute the race plan, and we had the race always in our hands. Especially Neve (Bradbury) and Aga (Skalniak-Sójka) raced aggressively with many attacks or covering moves. I knew it was important and what position to be in going into the last corner from Maggy (Sport Director Magnus Bäckstedt), and I could get there. That gave me the best seat for the sprint, and I’m so happy to get it.”
“It’s my first pro win, so it means a lot. It was special to win, especially after all the bad luck we had with the team on Friday with crashes to Alice (Towers) and Roy (Sarah Roy). My parents were also here today, so that makes it even nicer.”
