Road Race World Championships
Anna Van der Breggen soloed to the line to take the rainbow jersey at the Road World Championships today in Innsbruck, Austria.
The dutchwoman attacked the remains of a small peloton with 40km to race, bridging across to a 6-rider breakaway. No sooner she joined the breakaway she attacked again, with only eventual silver medallist Amanda Spratt (Australia) able to make the initial attempt to go with Van der Breggen.
While Spratt was chasing alone, behind her the remains of the breakaway were joined by three more riders. Tatiana Guderzo attacked this group to ride away solo for the last position on the podium, securing a bronze medal for Italy.
Kasia Niewiadoma (Poland) in 12th place was our best rider, with Hannah Barnes (Great Britain) also finishing the tough World Championships race!
