Amialiusik third on general classification at Gracia Orlová
Elena Cecchini has just missed out on victory in the final stage of Gracia Orlová tour yesterday. Her team mate Alena Amialiusik held on to third place in the general classification and won the points jersey. The tour was won by Olena Pavukhina (BTC) with Shara Gillow (AUS) in second.
The 101km final stage was won from a breakaway that was just metres from being caught before the line. Marta Tagliaferro (ALE) won the stage while Cecchini won the bunch sprint to take 5th. The six rider break went clear before midway in the stage and had a lead of 1 minute 30 seconds. CANYON//SRAM Racing worked hard to bring the break back but were just three seconds short of bringing Cecchini to the line for victory.
After the stage Amialiusik said “It was a hard day today. My position on GC was difficult to change given the nature of the circuit but we tried to the last metres to make that happen and to go for the stage win with Elena. Of course our goal was to win GC here and we didn’t but we raced hard for it and we have again taken some experiences as a team from this week. We’re all looking forward to a rest now and next race for our team is at Tour of California. Last year I have good memories so we’re motivated to race there.”
Amgen Tour of California Breakaway from Heart Disease Women’s Race empowered by SRAM is a four day stage race from 19 to 22 May. With team partner SRAM a major sponsor of the race along with several of the team’s partners based in the US, CANYON//SRAM Racing will be looking for success in it’s first race in North America for 2016.
