Alexis second in Sacramento
Alexis Ryan sprinted to second today on the final stage of Amgen Tour of California Empowered with SRAM in Sacramento.
The final circuit stage in Sacramento was won by Arlenis Sierra (AST) who could narrowly overpower Ryan after a long straight sprint finish.
“I’m happy, but I really wanted to win and I was so close to winning so it’s a bit disappointing,” said Ryan after the podium ceremony.
“Kasia (Niewiadoma) and Trixi (Worrack) were with me in the last lap and we tried to remain calm. Even with 2km to go we weren’t anywhere near the front. But I was on Trixi’s wheel and she was so calm, so I trusted her and also was calm.”
“Trixi pulled from 500m to 200m to go. “I knew from stage one that I needed to start earlier because I needed to get up to speed and hold it. A 200m sprint might be long for some people but it was perfect for me. It’s just the winner had more kick at the end,” stated Ryan.
