ALENA GIVES IT ALL AT GP PLOUAY
Today’s Grand Prix Lorient Agglomération was another exciting battle on an 11-lap circuit in Plouay, France. Alena Amialiusik took control of the race from the front at the halfway mark with a long-range breakaway with 70 kilometres remaining.
Alena was joined by Jade Wiel (FDJ) and the pair built an advantage to over three minutes. With 50 kilometres to go, Alena pushed the pace and powered ahead solo.
With several attacks and chase groups forming behind, Alena’s teammates were attentive, with Elise in particular, present in two separate moves.
Not long after Alena was caught by two chasing riders with 20 kilometres remaining, the front swelled to be a larger group. Her teammates tried several attacks, but no one could match the final move of Elisa Longo Borghini (TFS) who went solo to win by twelve seconds. CANYON//SRAM Racing tried to help Elise in a close sprint for the remaining podium places where she finished thirteenth.
“I wished the race was one lap shorter!” joked Alena after the finish.
“I tried to go a steady but strong pace because I knew there was a long way to go and that many teams would be chasing. Seems I like to choose the hard way!”
“When Elisa and Mavi (Garcia) came across I could go with them but eventually, we were also caught. Our team then tried attacks with Tiffany, Elise and Mikayla but when Elisa did the winning move we just couldn’t go with it. We raced ambitiously and I had fun out there,” added Alena.
