ALICE COLLECTS ANOTHER WORLD TOUR PODIUM

Alice Barnes continues to show her sprinting strength after an impressive second place in the final stage of the Simac Ladies Tour today in Arnhem, The Netherlands. The stage was won by Marianne Vos (JVW) with the sprint finish made possible by Alice’s CANYON//SRAM Racing teammates.

Ella Harris joined the main breakaway of the day which was caught only within the final kilometres. After rain fell for the entire day, the 150-kilometre stage came to a sprint finish. Alice positioned in third wheel around the final corner but was unable to overtake Vos who took her third win for the six-day tour.

“We were happy with Ella in the break. Only once she was caught we went all in for the finish. The team chased to catch the remaining breakaway riders and I committed to the sprint,” explained Alice.

“I was quite out of position with two kilometres to go and did a big effort on a small climb to find Alexis’ wheel. With a fast downhill before the sprint, it was all about position and I went through the last corner behind Vos. We both could overtake (Amalie) Dideriksen but I couldn’t get past Vos.”

Alice explained, “Actually before the stage, we were expecting the race to be quite split up and for it not to be a sprint finish. Yesterday I had done a lot of work, pulling on the front of Lisa’s group for over 40 kilometres trying to help her stay in GC contention, so I am really happy that I could get a good result for the team today.”

The tour was won by Chantal van den Broek-Black (SDW) with Kasia Niewiadoma the best-placed rider on the general classification for CANYON//SRAM Racing in thirteenth.
