Zoe Bäckstedt Wales
Even at just 21 years old, Zoe Bäckstedt boasts a golden palmarés, with no fewer than nine World Championship titles and the accompanying rainbow jerseys to her name.
Back in 2022, she claimed the Junior category at the Cyclo-cross World Championships, before adding Junior world titles in road, time trial, and madison – all in the same year. This followed her 2021 junior road world title, alongside a host of European and national victories.
Making the leap to U23 cyclo-cross during the 2022/2023 winter season, Zoe’s strong performances culminated in a British title and a silver medal at the World Championships in Hoogerheide, before turning her focus to the road.
Ahead of the 2023/2024 cyclo-cross season, Zoe signed a three-year deal with CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto. She quickly proved the move to be a success, winning the Youth Classification at the Simac Ladies Tour (2.WWT) and claiming the U23 European TT title on her new Canyon Speedmax, besting trade teammate Antonia Niedermaier.
Ahead of the move, Zoe explained:
“I was excited about the opportunities at CANYON//SRAM Racing. I get to race with a strong squad and also have the freedom to race in any discipline I want to. The team made a lot of developments last year and I really like that. Plus, the bikes and kit are pretty cool!”
A multi-disciplinary racer at heart, Zoe remains CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto’s resident cyclo-crosser, carrying the team flag during the road off-season while many others hibernate. She capped off a phenomenal 2024/2025 season by defending her U23 rainbow jersey at the Cyclo-cross World Championships in Liévin, France, having first claimed it the year prior. This victory capped an off-road season that included three elite World Cup podiums, and built upon her maiden professional road win from the stage one TT of the Simac Ladies Tour in October, 2024.
In 2025, Zoe soared higher, delivering her best road season yet with six victories, five against the clock. Highlights included her first-ever British Elite National title (in the TT), the U23 TT world title, back-to-back Simac Ladies Tour TT wins (claiming the Youth Classification for the third consecutive year), and her first professional road race victory at the Baloise Ladies Tour, sandwiched between prologue and TT wins (the latter came just 12 hours later). If that wasn’t enough, she unsurprisingly swept the General Classification.
As breathless as it sounds, Zoe’s achievements are likely only the beginning. Her never-ending cycles of multi-discipline seasons will roll on, gathering momentum and more remarkable successes along the way. We can’t wait to see it continue.
