Maria Martins Portugal

As the first Portuguese cyclist to race in the Women’s World Tour and the first Portuguese female track cyclist to win a World Championship medal, Maria Martins, commonly known as Tata, has firmly established herself as a trailblazer in her nation.

She has built an impressive career across both road and track disciplines, showcasing her versatility and physical capabilities with strong performances in each. On the road, she competed in the first three editions of Paris-Roubaix Femmes avec Zwift, won the 2021 Portuguese national road race title, and achieved fifth place at the 2023 Classic Brugge-De Panne. Her track achievements include scratch race medals – a bronze at the 2020 UCI Track World Championships, and gold and bronze at the 2023 and 2025 European Championships, respectively.

Further cementing her place in history, Tata became the first Portuguese track cyclist to compete in the Olympics, making her debut at Tokyo 2020. After focusing on Paris 2024, she largely returned her attention to the road with CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto.

It was a promising first season back in the WorldTour peloton for Tata, as she steadily re-found her form and developed into a highly valued teammate at races such as the Baloise Ladies Tour and Tour de Pologne, where the team secured stage wins and overall classifications.

Off the bike, Tata enjoys ceramics, spending time at home with her pets, relaxing with family and friends, cooking, watching sunsets, going to the cinema, and editing photos and videos.
