Awen Roberts Wales
Inspired by Geraint Thomas’s 2018 Tour de France victory and broadcasts of Women’s WorldTour races, 19-year-old Awen Roberts from Carmarthen, Wales, began riding with her local club and quickly progressed. She excelled as a junior both on the road and track, earning a bronze medal in the European Championships Elimination Race, securing several youth titles, and representing Great Britain at major events like the UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong and Glasgow.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Awen signed with the CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto Generation team.
“I’m a very determined rider who always gives 100%. I’m a willing team player, favour the harder terrain and love a good climb. My sprint is competitive, and I have a positive outlook on racing. I feel great about signing with CANYON//SRAM Generation and look forward to racing with my new teammates and learning from one another.”
In her debut season at the elite level, the young Welshwoman quickly adapted to the demands of top-tier racing, delivering strong performances across various events. Two moments from Spanish races stood out in particular. The first was a sensational seventh-place finish at the UCI 1.Pro GP Ciudad de Eibar, where she exhibited sharp racecraft to join a select breakaway before the infamous Arrate finishing climb. The second came in September at the UCI 1.2 Pionera race, where she claimed her first UCI podium with a third-place finish, highlighting her impressive growth throughout the year.
Awen was able to make her debut for the CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto WorldTour team at the six-day Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour in June, where her best performance came on the final stage, showcasing impressive resilience despite mounting fatigue. Later in the year, she demonstrated similar strength with two respectable 15th-place finishes on the final stages of the Tour de l’Ardéche in September, affirming her status as a rider to watch.
Throughout her highly productive and encouraging 2024, Awen consistently displayed her trademark positivity, along with maturity and tactical acumen beyond her years. Now having a year of experience under her belt, she enters 2025 wiser, stronger, and with an even rosier outlook.
