Kasia Niewiadoma won the Most Combative Rider and took the lead in the mountain classification on stage four of the LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour today in Mülhausen, Germany. In her renown attacking style, the CANYON//SRAM Racing rider, broke away from the peloton alone. Teammate Alex Morrice set up the attack with a strong pace on the front of the peloton, before Kasia seized her moment. Her solo breakaway lasted for 20 kilometres,  caught with five kilometres remaining. In the final, Kasia was 11th from a small group sprint. She is now equal on points but leading the queen of the mountain classification, ahead of tomorrow’s time trial stage.

Kasia Niewiadoma: “We planned to attack on the second lap, where the climbs were coming in quickly, one after another. The peloton had split earlier, and I found myself in a ten-rider group, but the cooperation wasn’t smooth, and just before the moment when we planned another attack, my group was caught.

Alex was in a second group, and our DS told her to set the pace to help me with an attack, which was perfect. I broke away solo, having a good gap at the end of the last climb, but due to the race terrain and wind strength, I was caught by a chasing group.

It was a good try, and it has motivated me to focus on improving my climbing skills, time trialling, and breakaway moves.

It would be great to win, especially after just announcing my contract extension, but on Sunday, there is another chance.”
