Stage 1 ITT in Verbania opens the Giro Rosa
The team time trial opening stage of the Giro Rosa has been run and won, with CANYON//SRAM Racing finishing in fifth place, 27 seconds behind the winning team Sunweb.
“We have hoped to be closer but overall the group raced very smooth which is pleasing. Looking forward to the TTT at world championships, we’ll now work on the speed and aim at being on a higher level” said DS Ronny Lauke.
Elena Cecchini wears the Best Italian rider jersey going into stage two tomorrow, while Ellen van Dijk (SUN) wears the first Maglia Rosa.
