8TH FOR ALICE IN THE STAGE FIVE ITT

Alice Barnes took a top ten finish today on stage five of the Simac Ladies Tour. Alice set a time for the 17.8km ITT stage  that put her in the hot seat for a long time. As the final riders crossed the line, Alice finished in eighth at +42 seconds behind the winner.

“I think the course made the TT exciting. Of course, you needed to be strong and comfortable on the TT bike but the technical course also made it a lot more open,” said Alice.

“My pacing strategy was to invest on the climbs and over the top and on the flat sections, and then to recover well in the downhills and corners. I was happy with how I paced it and had just enough left for the end to finish as strong as I could. Overall, I am pleased with my TT. After a hard race yesterday it is nice to still feel strong at the end of a stage race.”

Soraya Paladin finished in 23rd place at +1:16, moving out of the top ten overall. Lisa Klein was at +1:06 and Ella Harris crossed the line +1:36 minutes.

“I had good legs, but the TT is not only about power,” said Soraya.

“The course was really technical and my skills with the TT bike weren’t good enough. I’m disappointed with the results and slipping down on GC but tomorrow is another day and we will try everything.”

Soraya is the team’s best in GC in 12th place at +1:28 from leader, Lorena Wiebes.
