Second in the team time trial in Gennep
CANYON//SRAM Racing have finished second in tonight’s stage two at the Boels Ladies Tour in Gennep, Netherlands. The team time trial stage was won by Boels Dolmans, 33 seconds ahead of CANYON//SRAM Racing and 1 minute and 5 seconds from RaboLiv in third.
The 26.4km course was fast and non technical with only twelve corners in total. CANYON//SRAM Racing with Trixi Worrack, Lisa Brennauer, Mieke Kröger, Elena Cecchini, Barbara Guarischi and Alena Amialiusik had an average speed of over 50km/hr.
Following the stage Directeur Sportif Ronny Lauke was pleased the team had improved on their TTT performance in Vårgårda, Sweden two weeks ago where the team finished fourth.
“The gap is still quite big to the winning team, but we have become closer. From losing around 2.5 seconds per kilometre in Sweden, we were around 1.1 seconds behind here. It’s still not we want but we remain optimistic. We will look to continue to improve in the remaining weeks before world championships and we have a plan. Our average speed of 50.2km/hr is the fastest we’ve gone, but it was only good enough for second this time.”
Stage three tomorrow is a 122km stage around Sittard-Geleen. Racing starts at 12:00 (CEST) and can be followed on the team’s Twitter @WMNcycling and using #BRLT16.
