MORE ADELAIDE RACING AT THE SCHWALBE ONE-DAY CLASSIC
One week after the Tour Down Under, and following a solid week of training on the picturesque South Australian roads, all eyes are now on the Schwalbe Women’s One-Day Classic (1.Pro).
The 90km kermesse-style race will see riders take on 20 laps of a 4.5km circuit, meandering through the inner-city park spaces of central Adelaide. Each lap is highlighted by a climb of the unassuming Monefiore Hill. The 4% gradient, lasting 567m, may not seem particularly tough on paper, but as fatigue sets in and with QOM points up for grabs on laps 8 and 16, it could become a decisive factor.
Our lineup remains unchanged from the previous week, with Chloé Dygert, Neve Bradbury, Maike van der Duin, Maria Martins, Alice Towers, and Tiffany Cromwell all ready to take on the roads of Adelaide once more.
Chloé Dygert
“The past week in Adelaide after Tour Down Under has been fun. It’s been nice to train in the heat and spend time with the team. We’ve had some good, hard sessions as we continue our training into the season, and I’m looking forward to the weekend and then heading into Melbourne.”
“I think Sunday is a way for us to race and see how things go, but also try a bunch of different things. It’s still a big race, but it’s also a race that we are looking forward to experimenting with a little bit. It’s going to be a good day to just see what we can all do.”
Maike van der Duin
“As a Dutch rider, I’ve always enjoyed criteriums. We do a lot of them in the Netherlands, especially since I started racing at seven years old, so it’s something I’m quite familiar with. I’m excited for this race, as I think it can really suit us as a team.”
“I think it’s going to make for some exciting racing, and I love the aggressive, open racing style where we can attack. I think that’s something we’re really looking forward to as a team.”
“On a personal note, I’m still working on improving my sprint and lead-outs, and sticking more closely to the team. But I’m excited to keep making progress and take that next step forward.”
