DIG DEEP COACHING EXTEND ITS PARTNERSHIP AND MARIO VONHOF JOINS AS SPORT DIRECTOR
CANYON//SRAM Racing is delighted to welcome back Dan Fleeman and Stephen Gallagher from Dig Deep Coaching as part of the team’s performance group, as well as welcoming Mario Vonhof as Sport Director in 2023.
Dan and Stephen provided valuable input in their first season with the team and quickly accepted the opportunity to continue for another three years through 2025.
Stephen Gallagher, Dig Deep Coaching, said, “It has been an exciting year to work in a new environment and meet the riders and staff who make up the community of CANYON//SRAM Racing. Building the working relationships with the staff and trust among the riders has been a positive experience during 2022.”
“It is a privilege to be part of the CANYON//SRAM Racing family for another three years. We are delighted to have the trust of the team management and riders to help them all deliver optimal performances in the future. Setting longer-term goals and interventions are a great way to develop and grow with the team.”
“Our ambitions are based on individual rider development, well-being, and team goals. We want to develop further strategies to help riders become better all-around athletes, which include initiatives on and off the bike, we also want to build on the vast amount of experience within the team to help deliver results over different terrains. Modern-day racing is becoming more demanding, and with higher workloads than ever, if we are to meet those demands, balancing those factors in both training and racing along with recovery will be another key area to help us see riders develop in the long term over the coming years.”
CANYON//SRAM Racing Sport Director staff will be boosted by Mario Vonhof, who will work alongside lead Sport Director Magnus Bäckstedt next season. Vonhof was a former pro cyclist on the track and road and already has Sport Director experience.
Mario Vonhof said, “Since working as a DS in 2014, I’ve stayed in pro cycling as a coach and in close contact with Team Manager Ronny Lauke. I am happy I now have the chance to come back as a DS and work with this group of fantastic people. We have a very, very good group of soigneurs, mechanics and management. Since the beginning of October, I have worked closely with Magnus, and we have similar ideas and visions for the team moving forward. We want to create a perfect working group inside and outside the races, with high morale and building a kind of family where everyone stands for each other.”
“I was never the best rider, but I learned how to use the power of others and to be tactically clever to win races. I believe I can help teach this to our riders, and I aim to build high morale and motivate riders so they enjoy their job as much as possible. Together with Magnus, we will find good tactical and offensive approaches to races. We have clear goals to start at the beginning of 2023 and build towards Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift in July and beyond.”
