Omer wins Israeli ITT title

Omer Shapira won her first individual time trial (ITT) title today at the Israeli national championships. The CANYON//SRAM Racing rider won by a margin of over four minutes from her nearest rivals Lian Vitkin and Avital Gez.

“The 25km course was out and back with some elevation gain on the way out and then a short climb to the finish. I planned to pace it quite controlled on the way out and then give it all after the turn around point,” said Shapira following the podium ceremony.

“Each rider started with two minute gaps and I had already caught three riders by the turn around point so I have to admit that I knew it was clear I would win and found it really hard to then push over my limit on the last part. I always come to nationals with full focus and I feel the pressure to perform, so I’m a little disappointed I didn’t really show my full strength by pushing to the limit all the way to the line.”

Three consecutive times the Israeli road champion, Shapira was pleased to have won her first ITT national title.

“It’s always special to race at home. It’s my second time racing the ITT at nationals and I’m happy and proud to wear the TT suit with my flag in 2021. It’s a nice way to represent my supportive community when I’m racing around the world,” added Shapira.
