Mieke Kröger 4th on the penultimate stage in Netherlands
German road champion Mieke Kröger today finished in fourth place from an eight rider breakaway on the penultimate stage of the Healthy Ageing Tour. Alexis Ryan had also been in the race-winning move but unfortunately crashed in the final kilometre, thwarting their plans for a lead out for Ryan. The stage was won by Chantal Blaak (DLT) from Susanne Andersen (HTP).
Kröger had been in several moves for the day, including an early 13-rider move with teammate Barbara Guarischi. “The race started hectically with a lot of attacks. We did a good job to be in all of the right moves with numbers from our team too.”
“In the final break both Alexis and I were there and we had decided I would try for a late solo attack. It was brought back by Blaak. Despite a few more attacks our group was coming to the finish together and I planned to lead out Alexis. Unfortunately she crashed in the final kilometre and fourth was the best I could manage.”
Ryan received bunch time after her crash within the final 3km and will start in tomorrow’s final stage in Borkum, Germany. Lisa Brennauer holds her third place on the general classification, 32 seconds behind leader Ellen van Dijk (SUN). The final stage can be live streamed here: http://www.podium.tv/nl/live
