Lisa third on stage 3 in Arnhem
CANYON//SRAM Racing put Lisa Brennauer on the podium today after the German sprinted to third place on stage two of the Holland Ladies Tour in Arnhem. The race was won in a bunch sprint with Kirsten Wild (CLP) taking victory after an all-day breakaway was caught only in the final 3km.
“The team did such a great lead out,” said Brennauer after the stage. “The girls went to the front with about 3.5km to go and when other teams tried to come beside, they just kept going faster and faster. It was a crazy final with a lot of road furniture and it was super fast. Suddenly with 200m to go the road narrowed and that’s there was a crash in the sprint. The girls dominated the final and kept me out of trouble. At the end, Kirsten was just too fast in the sprint.”
“They were really great in what they did. I would have loved to win for them to pay back for this,” added Brennauer.
With Brennauer’s third place she moves closer to the overall tour leader, Annemiek van Vleuten and now trails by seven seconds ahead of tomorrow’s ITT stage three. German time trial champion Trixi Worrack also moves up one place into fourth on the general classification. The 18km ITT stage three starts at 13:30 CEST and can be followed on Twitter with #UCIWWT and #BLT2017.
