LISA SECOND IN THE GC AFTER STAGE 1 OF BALOISE
Over in Belgium the team will have a busy day of racing with a road stage of 80 kilometres this morning followed by an 11 kilometre individual time trial in the afternoon. Lisa Klein holds second in the GC, just two seconds behind leader Mischa Bredewold after the Parkhotel rider won the first stage yesterday.
“Our plan was to go for the intermediate sprints for myself and for Alice (Barnes) in the final sprint. The first intermediate sprint I was fighting a bit with myself and I messed up my positioning. The whole team was there for me but it was my own mistake. The second sprint I gained two bonus seconds,” said Klein.
“It’s really hectic in the bunch but the team was always present and we had a good race together. Alice didn’t have the best day herself but she helped a lot in the end to try to pull back the three leaders who won with a gap of just nine seconds. So, on GC it’s quite okay. We’ll be on fire for the morning stage, and then I’m really looking forward to the time trial and am going to give it my best to win,” added Klein.
