Lisa ready for track worlds in Berlin

Lisa has her sights set firmly on a medal performance at this week’s Track World Championships being held in Berlin, Germany and is well within her reach. The 23 year old has been selected to represent Germany in three events: the team pursuit (26, 27 February), individual pursuit (29 February), and the madison (29 February).

After claiming a bronze medal in her first Track World Championships in 2019, Lisa admits she is hungry for further success on the track.

“One year ago, directly after the track worlds in Pruszków, I already started thinking about these next worlds in Berlin! It is special to have these championships at home. I expect a large crowd and it’s a big motivation to have the most important people in my life there watching me. I will enjoy every moment,” said the current German individual time trial champion on the road.

Lisa, who wasn’t selected by Germany for the individual pursuit at the European Games in Apeldoorn in October, said she was happy to be named in the event for the world championships.

“I am even more motivated to show that I’m able to compete with the best athletes in the world. I knew that we have three spots in the individual pursuit and I’m excited to race. It is super short and painful, yet it’s one of my favourite disciplines. I hope for a medal again and my personal goal is to compete in the big final for gold. The biggest competitor is obviously Chloé Dygert (USA) with her world record of 3:20.06 minutes.”

“I have definitely made progress and I believe a step forward in the last 12 months. I am not nervous about it because I’m focused on my own race and I want to improve my personal best time of 3:27 minutes. Even with the noise of the start machine counting down, you need to keep your focus and not let your nervousness destroy you. I can’t wait to see where I stand now, one year later and in better shape,” continued Lisa.

Prior to the individual pursuit, Lisa will make up a five-rider squad in Germany’s women team pursuit hopes that start with qualifying rounds on Wednesday afternoon’s opening session.

“In my opinion for the team pursuit, a realistic goal for us is to get into the final for third. The bronze medal is possible but we all need a super good day and a perfect race. It’s going to be very close. Our training sessions have gone well so far and we all have made progress so we’re looking forward to trying our best.”

Lisa will partner with Franziska Brauße for the madison on Saturday 29 February.

“For the madison, we aim for a good race. Everything can happen because it’s a very complex, fast and furious race. I’ve had a few races in the past but I still miss the routine and experience that is important for madison races. We are not the favourite team but we can be a surprise and it’s an exciting event. It is fun to race with Franziska and we get know each other better from race to race.”

The UCI Track World Championships presented by Tissot, will run from 26 February to 1 March in Berlin, Germany and event details can be found here with daily facebook updates and videos here.
