LA PÈRIGORD BEFORE SUMMER BREAK FOR GENERATION SQUAD
After a mini-breather for rest and recovery following a heavy block of stage racing, CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto Generation will next line up at La Périgord Ladies before a proper break. Some riders took on two, others all of the following within a single month: Volta a Catalunya, Tour des Pyrénées, Volta a Osona, Giro dell’Appennino, National Championships, and Volta a Portugal.
The four-rider squad for the 121 kilometre UCI 1.1 race in France’s Limousin region features Diane Ingabire, Florence Nakagwa, Emily Dixon, and Jule Märkl.
The meandering course takes riders through bumpy inland terrain, from the serene Lac de Rouffiac to the picturesque town of Boulazac Isle Manoire. It packs in over 2000 metres of elevation, thanks to a barrage of short but honest climbs, with steep pinches hiding throughout. With just over 20km to go, the peloton will hit the final finishing circuit: 3.5 laps of a nearly 6km loop, the focal point being a 1.5km climb at 5.5% and a sharp descent immediately after.
It’s the same finishing circuit used last year, on a similarly styled course where a breakaway of five went clear before the circuit and held off a reduced peloton of 20 by nearly two minutes. It’s typically an attritional race, with the peloton split into many small fragments and a high abandon rate.
This event marks the team’s final appearance before a one-month summer gap in racing. They’ll return to competition in August at the Egmont Cycling Race and GP Lucien Van Impe, two one-day Belgian races.
