Kröger tries to steal yellow on Stage 2
On Stage two of the Ladies Tour of Norway Mieke Kröger, who placed seventh in the opening prologue, nearly stole the leaders jersey after an attack late in the race.
Kröger was in a four-rider move that gained an advantage of over 30 seconds in the final circuits in Fredrikstad. With a bridge crossing at 5km to go, the breakaway was stopped and although restarted with a lead, lost its momentum and was caught by the peloton soon after.
“When our break went, I was thinking right at that time that it was a good moment to attack and so I was practically on the wheel of Leah Kirchmann (SUN) when she went first. It was a very fast section through the tunnel, perfect for an attack,” said Kröger.
“We were all working the break and I was thinking only of the yellow jersey, knowing that all I needed to do was be third or higher to take the jersey. The crossing was really bad timing. Of course that interrupted me. My chance was pretty much gone, which I’m disappointed about.”
“The profile tomorrow is hillier than the other days. We have to check out the course and make a plan for tomorrow as a team,” added Kröger.
Tomorrow’s final stage will be broadcast live online on the UCI Youtube channel, and can be followed on Twitter with #LTON17.
