Kasia wins the GC at Tour de l'Ardéche
Kasia Niewiadoma stamped her dominance at the Tour de l’Ardeche when, in addition to collecting three stage podiums during the tour, she today won the general classification, combined classification and mountains jerseys in Privas, France.
Niewiadoma, supported by her CANYON//SRAM Racing teammates took over the pink leader’s jersey with a strategic attack on the descent in yesterday’s penultimate stage. Today, the 23-year-old Polish rider never looking in danger, as she proved her strong form ahead of the upcoming UCI Road World Championships.
Having already won stage five, alongside her teammate Alexis Ryan’s stage one win, Niewiadoma capped off a successful week for the CANYON//SRAM Racing outfit. Read the reactions from the riders below after the six-day stage race:
Kasia Niewiadoma: “I’m very happy because this is a result of hard work from our entire team! We were committed and motivated from the start until the end. It’s nice to celebrate it together and to have this feeling of satisfaction. We suffered a lot, learnt a lot and we gained a lot. Now, I’m going to Girona to recover for a few days and then I will fly to Innsbruck for the most important race of the season, the road world championships.”
Tiffany Cromwell: “For me personally I was happy with my form from start to finish. It’s nice to see the work of the last period pay off and it’s good for my confidence going into world championships. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty tired right now!”
“I think it was a really good week for the team. It was a nice group here and we were very motivated. Leah and Tanja were really involved in the race, and Alexis and Kasia showed they are both on form. It’s a nice tour, always up and down with technical descents, the climbs are long but manageable because they aren’t that steep, and always some action happening. It’s a nice way to finish the season the way we started, with some wins, and I think we couldn’t have asked for a better result here.”
Leah Thorvilson: “I could not be more proud of the team. They executed their plans each day perfectly and the result, a win in the GC, is great. It was wonderful to see Tanja take her first jerseys too! I had some days that I could help out my teammates, and other days I struggled which was disappointing. I know that I gave all that I had.”
Alexis Ryan: “We rode as a cohesive unit this week and I’m just bursting with pride! Tiff, Kasia and I were a force to be reckoned with in the front group all week, and we still found time to have fun on the descents! Kasia is on great form now and I’m really happy we could support her to victory.”
“I’m really pleased with how I’ve been riding this week. I feel powerful in the sprints and strong on the climbs, which is perfect coming into worlds.”
Tanja Erath twice wore the Rush classification jersey throughout the tour. “I’m disappointed to not have kept the Rush classification jersey on the last stage today. But at the same time I can be proud of my race this week. It hasn’t ever been easy and there were many times I was suffering! I’m very happy that Kasia won the GC, what a tour she had!”
