ANOTHER DAY IN THE MAILLOT JAUNE FOR KASIA
CANYON//SRAM Racing’s Kasia Niewiadoma holds the Maillot Jaune after today’s penultimate Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift stage. In the first of two mountain stages, Kasia rode superbly to hold a 27-second lead going into tomorrow’s final day.
The route ran from Champagnole, passed the lake of Annecy and finished at the summit of Le Grand-Bornand after climbing the Col de la Colombière. As anticipated, it was a tense race until the finish line between the general and mountain classification contenders. Kasia took fourth on the stage behind solo winner Justine Ghekiere (APB), who extended her lead in the polka dot jersey.
Kasia’s teammates, Alice Towers, Agnieszka Skalniak-Sójka, Soraya Paladin, Neve Bradbury and Chloé Dygert, raced superbly and fought hard for their leader to keep the yellow jersey. Kasia finished the strong work and leads the overall by 27 seconds ahead of Puck Pieterse (ADC). Bradbury goes into the final stage holding fourth place in the youth classification.
RIDER REACTIONS
Kasia Niewiadoma: “We approached the stage with the same aim as previous days, by racing together in good position and not making errors, and this is what the team did today. I’m focused now fully on my recovery and fueling well because we know the demands of tomorrow’s stage. I aim to give my best during the stage and to the finish in Alpe D’Huez to keep the yellow jersey.”
Chloé Dygert: “I’m finally starting to get a feel of the peloton again. I’m happy to be there for Kasia and the team! It was a hard day today with the climbs, and we did what we could to minimise the gap to the break. We’re all in for tomorrow.”
Neve Bradbury: “Today was intense and fast, but we stayed in position and can be happy with the outcome. Kasia felt good on the climbs, and we’re excited for the last stage tomorrow.”
