Kasia 6th at Fléche
Kasia Niewiadoma from CANYON//SRAM Racing finished sixth today at the UCI Women’s World Tour race, Fléche Wallonne Femmes in Huy, Belgium.
The race was won, for the fifth consecutive year, by Anna van der Breggen (DLT), with Annemiek van Vleuten (MTS) in second, and Annika Langvad (DLT) rounding the podium in third place.
After a number of attacks and short-lived breakaways on the 118km course, a relatively large group of riders came to the second and final ascent of the Mur de Huy.
Soon after the last attempt to escape by Floortje Mackaij (SUN) was overtaken with around 500m to go, Niewiadoma made her move to try to go clear.

“I felt in that moment it was the time to go. In the end I was sixth, I’m not unhappy with sixth place but I can say now that I made a mistake and went too early. But that’s the benefit of hindsight,” said Niewiadoma after the finish.”

“I was feeling good today. I tried to get away on the Côte de Cherave the final time but the headwind there didn’t help. Elena (Cecchini) had also tried on the lap earlier, but we should have probably waited until a different section. We tried, we wanted to make it hard and reduce the size of the group.”
“We cannot be unhappy with sixth place for Kasia, it’s a very good result and now we recover, and start to look forward to Sunday’s Liége-Bastogne-Liége!”
