"It is my favourite race in the calendar"
“It is my favourite race in the calendar and every year I aim for a good and brave performance there,” said Elena Cecchini who will race GP Plouay Lorient Agglomération on Saturday 26 August. The Italian rider will line up with Hannah Barnes, Lisa Brennauer, Tiffany Cromwell, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot and Christa Riffel to form a formidable line up for CANYON//SRAM Racing.
The 121km race in western France is one of the most exciting one day races on the women’s calendar. On each of the four larger 26km laps the peloton face three climbs: Côte du Lezot, Chapelle Ste Anne des Bois and the Côte de Ty Marrec. The final 13km lap sets up an exciting finish where last year Elena Cecchini sprinted to second place.
“The nature of the course suits me really well when I am in good shape. I worked hard in the last month building for worlds TTT and road race which are both my main goals for the last part of the season. That’s why I believe I can have a good performance in Plouay and I would like to test my self being active through the race,” said Cecchini.
“It’s only in the last two laps that the important attacks go and create chances for the win. I will try to be there when the key move will be made,” added Cecchini.
Frenchwoman Ferrand-Prévot added her support of the course. “I really like the hilly course, and it’s nice to race in my own country in front of the french public. After being at MTB these last weeks it’s also really special to race with my teammates again and for that I’m really excited.”
Ferrand-Prévot added “We have a good chance to win on Saturday, and it will be like always a hectic race. I think it will be a small bunch sprint.”
The race is broadcast live on France 3 and Eurosport in Europe, Asia and Australia, and can be followed on Twitter with #UCIWWT with official start at 13:40 CEST.
