JUSTYNA SPRINTS TO SECOND IN GP IGARTZA
CANYON//SRAM Generation had its first podium of the season when Justyna Czapla sprinted to second place at Igartza-Sari-Nagusia GP Igartza. The second round of the Spanish Cup was won from a group of nine riders, with Czapla bridging across to the leaders in the final kilometres.
CANYON//SRAM Generation had worked hard to chase the leaders to reduce the gap. Justyna could then bridge across from the peloton and sprint to second place from the small group.
JUSTYNA’S REACTION:
“The team worked really well together today. My teammates helped bring the leaders close on the last lap, and I could bridge across on the final climb, about 5km before the finish.”
“At the beginning of my attack to bridge across to the leaders, it was tough to push and keep pace. But after some time, I found a good tempo and quickly caught up with the group without being at the absolute limit.”
“I’m really happy and proud about the second place. I’m grateful to my teammates because, without their work, second place wouldn’t have been possible. I hope we can continue like this in the next races, and aim for victory one day!”
“I’m proud of how the team rode today,” says Sport Director Adam Szabó. “They rode strongly as a team and could reduce the gap to the leaders to allow Justyna to jump across. That she gets a podium is a really positive reward for the commitment from the entire group.”
Teammate Diane Ingabire finished second in the bunch sprint, crossing the line in 14th place.
