ELISE TAKES OVER THE MOUNTAIN JERSEY
Elise Chabbey took over the mountain jersey after today’s sixth stage of the Giro Donne in Bergamo. The CANYON//SRAM Racing rider collected maximum points on four of the five classified climbs to lead the classification.
The stage came down to a sprint from a small group of eleven riders with Elise taken out of contention with a small crash at the bottom of the climb, just four kilometres before the finish.
“I’m really disappointed with the final as I was feeling really good for the last climb. Getting the green jersey is a nice consolation but I wanted to be able to have a chance as that sort of climb suits me well,” said Elise.
Elise leads the mountain classification now by 21 points ahead of tomorrow’s category 1 summit finish to Passo del Maniva.
“Our team will look for as many opportunities as we can in the last four stages,” added Elise.
Following the crash, Elise dropped to ninth at +5:45 minutes in the general classification behind the maglia rosa of Annemiek van Vleuten (MOV). Neve Bradbury retains second in the youth classification ahead of tomorrow’s seventh stage.
