In stage two of the Giro Rosa the QOM Andreis climb quickly sorted riders with general classification ambitions for the ten-day stage race. The stage was won by Annemiek van Vleuten (OGE) from Anna van der Breggen.
Elena Cecchini was CANYON//SRAM Racing’s best placed rider, 4 minutes 40 seconds behind the winner. “I felt good with the front group at the start of the climb and Kasia Niewiadoma (WM3) was one of the first to attack. I couldn’t go directly with, but kept my own pace and I was able to come back to the front group. Then Amanda Spratt (OGE) attacked and again I couldn’t follow but I could see the group just 200m ahead of me.”
“I knew the descent so was hoping I could risk and come back to the front group there, but the leaders really pushed the last part of the climb, and over the top the gap was too big,” said Cecchini. Hannah Barnes also finished just behind Cecchini.
Stage three, 100km from San Fior to San Vendemiano, starts at 12:15 with Anna van der Breggen now wearing the maglia rosa. The action can be followed on Twitter with #GiroRosa and #UCIWWT.
