NASTYA KOLESAVA TAKES 12TH AT DAY ONE OF FESTIVAL ELSY JACOBS

Nastya Kolesava finished in twelfth place for CANYON//SRAM Generation at today’s Festival Elsy Jacobs weekend opening day in Luxembourg. Teammate Awen Roberts finished in 19th place.

The 112km race had fireworks from the start with a series of attacks and fast-paced action. Five riders went clear before the halfway mark and contested the sprint with Marta Lach (WNT) taking the honours. Tomorrow’s second day of racing, 121km around Cessange starts at 13:30CEST with a live stream available from MotoMedia on vimeo.

RIDER REACTIONS

Nastya Kolesava: “It started fast and hard, especially because we started on a climb. Our plan was to be positioned at the front so we could go with the first attacks from the beginning of the race. On the third of eight laps, the peloton split into two groups. On the fourth lap, the breakaway of five riders got away on the descent. Awen joined my group, but it was difficult to do something because we were just two riders. Honestly, the attacks never stopped today. For the final sprint, I could have been in a better position but I’ll take note of it for tomorrow. Our plan is to race together as a team and fight for the podium!”

Awen Roberts: “The start was good because we were positioned at the front and out of trouble. There were attacks and we as a team had to be aware of them and maintain our good position. I made it to Nastya’s group which had a good pace to keep ahead of the next group, but also allow a chance to recover. As a team we can be happy with our performance but we also know what to work on and how to do better again tomorrow.”
