Driedaagse De Panne: the newest race on the UCIWWT calendar
We now turn our attention to the Driedaagse Brugge – De Panne on Thursday 22 March. The newest race on the UCI Women’s WorldTour calendar will see a roster of Alice Barnes, Tiffany Cromwell, Lisa Klein, Christa Riffel, Alexis Ryan and Trixi Worrack for our team.
Starting from Brugge, the 151km course winds its way south along the coast before coming to two local finishing 15km circuits in De Panne. With just two intermediate sprints on offer and a course profile as flat as they come, it’s hard to go past the initial anticipation of a bunch sprint unless wind is able to play a role.
Director Sportif Barry Austin said the team will be hunting for further success in the new race and predicts weather will play a role.
“Like many of the spring races the weather could turn out to be the toughest opponent to beat on the day. Adapting your plan to this will be crucial. It’s a flat race along the coast of Belgium and can always spring a surprise,” announced Austin.
After two consecutive second places and a win in the first three races of the Women’s WorldTour the CANYON//SRAM racing will approach the race with more confidence and motivation than ever before.
“We will ride the wave the weather gods give us on the day and use its energy alongside that already present amongst our athletes,” said Austin.
The race starts at 12:50 CET on Thursday 22 March and can be followed on Twitter with #UCIWWT and #Driedaagse.
