DOUBLE WEEKEND OF RACING IN GERMANY AND SPAIN

A double weekend of racing action is coming up for CANYON//SRAM Generation in Spain and CANYON//SRAM Racing in Germany. The two squads both have strong rosters for racing this Sunday, 15 September.

Pionera Race in the Valencia region of Spain is the final team race of the 2024 season for CANYON//SRAM Generation. The lineup is Selam Gerefiel, Diane Ingabire, Awen Roberts, Daniela Schmidsberger, Ese Lovina Ukpeseraye, and Alice Towers. The 96km race packs plenty of elevation, 1730m, into the short course. The race starts at 13:30 CEST and can be followed on X with #PioneraRace.

In Germany, CANYON//SRAM Racing will take on UCI 1.PRO race, GP Stuttgart.  In the first edition of the women’s race in 2023 it was CANYON//SRAM Generation who competed. This year, the World Tour Team has added the race to its calendar and will field a mix of riders from both teams. The team’s roster is Zoe Bäckstedt, Tiffany Cromwell, Justyna Czapla, Nastya Kolesava, Jule Märkl and Alex Morrice. The 118km race can be followed on X with #GPStuttgart.

Zoe Bäckstedt: “It was good fun to be back racing last week in Ardéche! I loved joining the Generation team for this race, they all made it so easy to come back to racing and made the week really enjoyable. I was happy with my level. The results weren’t there to show it all the time but from my power numbers and just general feeling I was happy with the outcome of the six-day race.

One of the things I enjoyed the most from Ardèche was the vibe in the team even after a super hard or rainy stage. Everyone was just happy to be racing and it really made a difference to the stage race.

For Stuttgart being quite a tough route with some decent climbs and a hard finishing circuit I’m just looking to help out the team as much as I can, in whatever way that may be.”

Jule Märkl: “I am looking forward to the weekend. It will be my second time racing with the World Tour Team, the first time was back in April. I think the most important improvement is that I am more used to the longer distance in the races and also how to race together and offensively with my teammates.

I still have in mind that my training was not the best the last weeks because of the sickness, so first of all I want to feel good again on the bike but I also want to use the opportunity to ride again with the World Tour riders to learn from them and I want to help them as good as possible.”
