ELISE AND SORAYA AGAIN IN THE TOP TEN IN VUELTA A BURGOS
CANYON//SRAM Racing fnished stage two of Vuelta a Burgos Feminas impressively with Elise Chabbey and Soraya Paladin within the top ten for the second consecutive day. Elise crossed the line on the summit finish of Alto de Rosales in fifth place, with Soraya a few seconds behind in eighth.
An early breakaway of four riders was caught still with more than 35km of racing left on the stage. CANYON//SRAM Racing was attentive to all the moves, instigating some of its own attacks over the undulating terrain in the final hour of racing. With around 5km remaining, Maike van der Duin brought the team into first position just before the final turn into the bottom of the finish climb. Stage winner and new GC leader Demi Vollering attacked the leading group with 1km remaining, and Elise and Soraya fought hard to stay in contact. With their places, they both move up in the overall. Elise is now fourth on the general classification at +23 seconds and Soraya Paladin is sixth at +26 seconds. Alice Towers remains sixth in the youth classification while teammate Neve Bradbury dropped out of contention. CANYON//SRAM Racing leads the team classification with two stages remaining.
RIDER REACTIONS
Elise Chabbey: “Today was quite a good day for the team. Alice and Neve covered attacks in the early part, and Maike and Aga tried to position Soraya and myself in the finish climb. I’m disappointed that I was out of position when Demi attacked. I had to close the gap to Soraya’s group and then try to go again. I felt like I had good legs and the ability to be in the top three on today’s stage which is disappointing to miss the chance.”
Soraya Paladin: “The team plan was to be present in the breakaway and for our teammates to help me and Elise to be in a good position and we were, the girls did a really good job. I did the climb in 2019, I had good memories of that day and i knew it was important to try stay on the wheels till the last km and try to use our punchy strength in the last part. Elise was a bit stuck when Demi attacked and I missed few meters to follow them. Then we both went all in till the end. I’m quite happy because I had good feeling on the climb and we are racing really good as a team but again we missed the podium so we are not 100% satisfied.”
