Barnes, Ryan and Brennauer preview the weekend's racing

CANYON//SRAM Racing line up in three races over this coming weekend. Lisa Brennauer leads the team into tomorrow evening’s individual time trial in Borsele, Netherlands. The tough 19.1km circuit, with local start time of 19:20 CEST is another opportunity to race a time trial since Brennauer placed third in the ITT stage at Energiewacht tour earlier in the month.

CANYON//SRAM Racing have four riders to join the former world champion Brennauer in the ITT: Alexis Ryan, Mieke Kröger, Hannah Barnes and Elena Cecchini. Brennauer, who has always finished in the top ten in this race, last year finished second behind winner Ellen van Dijk (DLT). Brennauer will take a break from racing after this time trial but is aiming for the win tomorrow, “I’m going to give my best tomorrow to deliver a really good result.”

On Saturday 23 April the team will race the EPZ Omloop van Borsele road race. A UCI 1.1 course of 136km that is everything you can expect of dutch racing: flat, windy and hard. The team adds Barbara Guarischi to line up next to Barnes, Ryan, Kröger and Cecchini. Barnes, who has had success in the junior edition of this race, expects typical tough dutch conditions. “I’ve seen the forecast is very windy, so it’s going to be interesting and it’s very small roads. Key is going to be positioning for most of the day.”

For the third race in as many days, the team then moves to Boezinge, Belgium for Dwars Doors de Westhoek on Sunday 24 April. A circuit race of 127km was last year won solo by former French national champion Elise Delzenne with CANYON//SRAM rider Tiff Cromwell finishing third. While Cromwell won’t race on Sunday, the team will have Guarischi, Cecchini, Ryan, Barnes and Kröger in a strong line up. Ryan says “I’m coming off two months of Spring racing so I’m feeling good and I think I’ll do pretty good in these races. I’ve gotten used to the cross winds and echelons.”
