Alice 2nd in Norway

Alice Barnes stepped onto the podium in stage 2 of UCI Women’s WorldTour Ladies Tour of Norway today after sprinting to second place. The peloton entered the final for 3 laps of an 8km circuit all together. After Alena Amialiusik, Kasia Niewiadoma and Lisa Klein were in early breaks in the circuit, it was Marianne Vos who made a solo attack with 6km to go. Alice’s teammates committed to the chase – bringing the gap to Vos down to just three seconds. Alice started the sprint first, with 300m to go and though the British Road Champion couldn’t quite catch Vos who took the stage win, Alice held on for second place. Her first UCIWWT podium in 2019.

“Yes I’m really happy,” said Alice. “I’m glad the team gave me the opportunity after I made a mistake on stage one. I had good legs today and kept in good position. The team chased really hard and I’m proud of their efforts. I had to start the sprint from a long way out, but that does suit me. A shame I couldn’t catch Vos, but I’m happy with second.”
