Alexis Ryan held on for second place in the sprint on stage one of Festival Elsy Jacobs in Steinfort, Luxembourg. After CANYON//SRAM Racing brought back a breakaway trio with 5km to go, the young American rider was leading out teammate Lisa Klein, who finished fifth.

“Our captain Elena Cecchini made the call to start chasing the break with one lap remaining. Tiffany (Cromwell) and Hannah (Barnes) brought it back. At the last corner Lisa had been on my wheel and my job was to bring her to the line. I jumped at the perfect moment for leading Lisa out but she couldn’t jump with me,” said Ryan directly after the finish.

“I didn’t look back and a leadout rider never sits up no matter what’s going on behind her so I kept trying to sprint with everything I had. Unfortunately Marjerus was fresh and had enough in the tank to come around me. Although the win for the team would have been good I’m not disappointed with the result,” added Ryan.

The stage was won by Christine Majerus (DLT) who now takes over the leader’s jersey with the final stage tomorrow in Garnich. Live stream of the race can be found here from 15:00 CET with the race start at 14:00 CET.
