Alena second at La Classique Morbihan
Alena Amialiusik today finished second at the UCI 1.1 La Classique Morbihan in Plumelec, France. Amialiusik led out the sprint from an elite group of 13 riders, only to be overtaken by Ashleigh Moolman (CBT) in the sprint to the finish.
The 113km undulating course had no real breakaways for the day until the final three local circuits caused the biggest splits at the front of the peloton. CANYON//SRAM Racing had three riders in the lead group of 26 riders entering the final circuits. Lisa Brennauer and Elena Cecchini supported their leader Amialiusik in the final.
“The plan was Barbara (Guarischi) and Leah (Thorvilson) would do more of the workload in the beginning of the race. They both did well, with Barbara chasing lots of the attacks and Leah did good work until she crashed (she is okay). They made a solid start to the race for our team.”
“When we arrived to the final circuits, both Elena and Lisa said the final was for me. I felt good. With one lap to go our group split and Elena did a hard acceleration with 1km to go. I started the sprint before the last corner, 350m to go, which was too early and in the end could hold for second place.”
“I wanted to win because it’s the same course as the European championships last year, and there I was two times fourth. We have another chance tomorrow and when all five of us work again like today it will be a good opportunity to try to take the win.”
GP de Plumelec starts tomorrow Saturday 27 May at 09:00 (CEST) and can be followed on Twitter with #GPPlumelec.
