SEVENTH FOR ZOE BÄCKSTEDT IN THE MERKSPLAS SUPERPRESTIGE
Zoe Bäckstedt delivered another impressive performance in her cyclo-cross campaign, finishing seventh in the Elite Women’s Superprestige race in Merksplas, Belgium. Building on her form from last weekend’s X2o Trophee, the CANYON//SRAM Racing rider demonstrated determination against a highly competitive field.
Zoe started the race strongly, positioning herself around fifth place in the early laps. However, a challenging mid-section of the course saw her lose ground, dropping to tenth as the intensity of the race increased. Despite the setback, Zoe stayed focused and steadily fought her way back into contention.
In the final laps, Zoe’s determination shone through as she regained positions and secured seventh place at the finish. It was a strong performance in a fast-paced and technical race, showcasing her growing strength.
Zoe says: “Today was just as hard as the first race last weekend, but also just as much fun. The last lap was intense so I’m tired directly now after the finish line. Give me a few minutes to recover and I’ll probably feel better about the race!”
“So far, I’m okay with the start to the season. Like everyone else here, I want to win. But I also need to be realistic. I didn’t have the best summer, with illness and I can’t expect too much of myself in the first two races of the season. I’ve done some training on the cross bike at the end of the road season, but I need more and these races are helping me get prepared for the World Cups. Tomorrow in Hamme is another race to take on and we’ll see how I go there.”
