Agua Marina Espinola Salinas Paraguay

A multiple national champion and the first-ever cyclist representing Paraguay at an Olympic Games, 26-year-old Agua Marina Espinola Salinas joined CANYON//SRAM Generation in its first season in 2022. Designated as the team’s road captain, Agua guided the team to many of its successes on and off the bike.

“I joined CANYON//SRAM Generation in 2022, already experiencing the barriers and challenges coming from lesser-known countries and finding a place in professional cycling. I’m really happy to be part of the development team of CANYON//SRAM Racing, and to have this opportunity is a sign that things can change for the better.

I’m happy to stay with the team for another year. I go into what will be an important new season knowing I’m in a supportive environment. It gives me the confidence to chase higher goals. I was happy with my new role as team captain last year. Seeing my teammates grow and learn race by race from a position I once was in was special. My targets are to step onto the podium in a UCI race in Europe and to qualify for Paris Olympic Games 2024 for Paraguay. As a team, I want us to raise each other’s level continuously, so we’re a competitive racing group.

I had a consistent year in 2022 where everything went almost to plan, a rarity in life. I had by far my best season in Europe, and besides the experience and maturity I have at this point, my team made everything easier thanks to the stability and confidence they gave us. We also benefited from incredible equipment; these combined factors were key to our success. Going home to Paraguay in the off-season, I received much recognition. My community is proud to see me involved in such an essential project for cycling with the backing and support from important sponsors.”
